Since last summer, we've been more than a little obsessed with this white barbecue sauce recipe. We've been putting this hot sauce on chicken, ribs, sandwiches, and now, pizza!

I'm telling you: this white barbecue pizza with ham and caramelized onion is truly epic!

Jack and I have been talking for a while about creating a pizza recipe using our white barbecue sauce instead of our favorite pizza sauce. Then a few weeks ago, we had dinner at our local Bertucci's (an east coast-based brick oven pizza chain), where I ordered their Pizza Nolio, a white pizza with strips of salted ham and sweet caramelized onions over a creamy sauce. .

And that was it: inspire the flavor of this fantastic White Barbecue Pizza with Salty Ham, Salty Sweet and addictively good with Prosciutto and Caramelized Onion! But I dare say, thanks to that white barbecue sauce, our pizza is even better than Nolio!

And, as if fate was lining up the stars to make this amazing new pizza recipe come true, our friends at OXO invited us to create a homemade pizza using some of their great pizza tools and gadgets.

First, we slice some onions and grated cheese into slices with the full set of OXO grids and slices. Includes thick and medium interchangeable racks, and straight and julienne cutting surfaces, which comfortably fit over a container for both collecting and measuring. We love this set, and I can see us using this handy tool all the time in our kitchen.

Ingredients

One medium to large onion

1 tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil

1 tablespoon butter

A 14 ounce pizza crust (store bought or make our homemade recipe)

Corn flour, powdered from the tray

½ cup prepared white barbecue sauce (see recipe here)

½ cup freshly shaved mozzarella cheese

1 ½ teaspoon fresh garlic, passed through a garlic press

5 thin slices of ham, cut into half-inch strips

Flour, to dust off the counter


Instructions

Using the straight blade in the OXO Grate and Cut Complete Set, slice the onion horizontally into thin slices.

In a medium skillet over medium heat, place the oil, butter, and sliced ​​onions.

Once the mixture is hot and begins to cook, lower to medium low and cook, stirring occasionally, for 35-45 minutes or until dark and caramelized. Remove from the heat and let cool. It should produce about 1/3 cup after cooking.

While the onions are cooking, remove the pizza dough from the refrigerator and bring it to room temperature covered.

Preheat oven to 450 degrees F. and place the rack in the center of the oven.

Roll out dough on floured surface to 16 "round.

Sprinkle cornmeal in the OXO Pro Nonstick Pizza Pan and place the rolled dough on the pan over the cornmeal. The sides will contract at the edges of the pan, which is 15 ".

Roll out the white barbecue sauce to about half an inch from the edge of the dough.

Sprinkle the mozzarella cheese on top.

Spread the garlic over the cheese.

Place the ham on top of the cheese.

Finally spread the caramelized onions on top.

Place the pizza pan on the center rack and bake for about 14 minutes or until the bottom is browned and the top is hot and bubbly.

Cut the pizza into slices with the 4-inch OXO pizza wheel. Serve immediately.
