Ice cream and frozen yogurt are equally delicious in the hot summer months, but my mind has already started to drop. . . hence this cinnamon vanilla frozen yogurt. The warm taste of cinnamon recalls things like Apple pie and Pumpkin spice!

Frozen yogurt lounges

Frozen yogurt salons are popping up across the United States. You know, the guys with an apparently endless variety of dressings and sauces. . . where do you pay per cup or per ounce?

We only have one option near us, and it's quite expensive, so we don't go often (and it can be hard to find options on the plan). But you can easily recreate frozen yogurt at home and add your own ingredients!

However, I must give a bit of disclaimer here: This particular frozen yogurt freezes very hard. My theory is that this has something to do with the low fat content. I think the more fat the ice cream / frozen yogurt contains, the creamier it will be.

Since this vanilla frozen yogurt is made with 0% nonfat Greek yogurt, there is no fat to help keep it creamy.

But this doesn't have to be a problem: I just leave the frozen yogurt on the counter and let it thaw for 20-30 minutes before I want to eat it.

I know, this is not so convenient, but really, this is a FUEL "ice cream", so I perfectly agree to wait a bit!

Perfect Fit Healthy Mama E Dessert Topping

The main inspiration behind this frozen yogurt recipe is to have an "ice cream" to put on top of the Cherry Crisp Recipe that I will publish next week.

Crisp warm cherry, fresh from the oven, topped with this sweet and sour vanilla cinnamon frozen yogurt. It is perfect! (Sorry, it shouldn't bother me, but now you have something to look forward to!)

I have another frozen yogurt recipe, so you may want to check out my oatmeal frozen yogurt, which is a Trim Healthy Mama E fuel.

This vanilla frozen yogurt is a Fuel Pull for Trim Healthy Mamas. (This simply means that it is low in carbohydrates and fats.) For this reason, you can use this frozen yogurt to top any dessert, even E desserts!

This is a great dessert to enjoy at night too. When dinner is over, and it's not bedtime, and hungry for something sweet? This is perfect: it's full of protein, but it's low in calories and low in fat.

This recipe makes 10 ½ cup servings. Each ½ cup serving has 56 calories, 7 grams of protein, 0 grams of fat and 3 net carbs.

I originally added a little vegetable glycerin to try and keep frozen yogurt smooth, but I couldn't say it made a difference, so I've omitted it in the final recipe.

This frozen yogurt is spicy, like yogurt. But it is also sweet. I think it tastes a bit like a cinnamon roll. My husband loved it because he thought it tasted like apple pie.

I have an ice cream maker similar to this 1.5 quart frozen yogurt maker. In fact, I have two, and I've never had a problem with them, they work great!

Ingredients

  • 1 32-ounce container 0% Greek yogurt (I use Costco's Kirkland brand)

  • ½ cup soft candy or my low carb powdered sugar

  • 1 cup unsweetened almond milk

  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon

  • 1 spoon of vanilla

Instructions

  • In a blender, combine all ingredients and mix well.

  • Process in the ice cream machine according to the manufacturer's instructions. (Mine took about 25 minutes).

  • Place the finished frozen yogurt in an airtight container and store it in the freezer.

  • Leave on the counter for 20 minutes before serving.

Notes

If you don't have Gentle Sweet, you can use the same amount of my low carb powdered sugar. I have not tried to do this without an ice cream machine. Possibly, it could freeze in a shallow dish, but I haven't tried it, so I can't guarantee the results. This frozen yogurt freezes very hard. It is best to leave it on the counter for 20 minutes before serving.
