The best Thousand Islands Dressing It has some basic ingredients like mayonnaise, tomato sauce, and sweet pickle sauce. Not only is it a great salad dressing, but it's also an amazing condiment for burgers and even a dip for fries!

Like blue cheese dressing, it's fairly basic, but has a powerful flavor that matches almost any type of salad, burger, or sandwich.

Why buy a store bought when you can make yours? You probably already have all the thousand island dressing ingredients in your fridge or pantry, so let's get started!

I love a good creamy dressing, not only for salads, but also for dipping vegetables. Thousand Island has always topped my list … but exactlyWhat is a thousand island dressing? It can be made with a variety of different ingredients to enhance flavors! The base always starts with mayonnaise (I add sour cream and vinegar to the spike). Tomato sauce (or tomato paste) adds rind and color. For sweetness, a tablespoon of sugar and a little sweet pickle sauce! So good!

What is the difference between the Russian dressing and the dressing of the thousand islands?

While both toppings have distinctive flavor profiles, thousands of island toppings are much more versatile because they can be used for more than just a salad dressing. The Russian dressing is more tomato based and has a finer, smoother consistency. It is also a bit more spicy because it requires horseradish and paprika. Russian dressing is great for ready-made salads (and perfect for my Dorito Taco Salad), but it's not as popular as the sweetest island dressing for Reuben burgers or sandwiches.
