How are shrimp tacos made?
There are 2 parts to this healthy shrimp taco recipe. First you must cook the shrimp and then you must prepare the salad that is served in the tortillas with the shrimp. The combination of these 2 items is what makes these cleats so amazing!
Preparing shrimp is the easiest part. In a large skillet, add shrimp, taco seasoning, sauce, stock, and squeeze the lime.
Cover and heat over medium-high heat until shrimp are cooked through. This should only take 5 minutes!
While the shrimp is cooking, I like to make the cabbage salad, so I'm ready to assemble the tacos once the shrimp are ready.
To make the cabbage salad, in a separate large bowl, combine the cabbage salad mix, diced jalapeños, fresh coriander, honey, and more fresh lime juice. Then stir to combine these ingredients well.
Then I like to lightly brown the corn tortillas over a flame on top of my stove to warm them up and brown the edges. You can microwave them if you prefer, the dorado adds a unique flavor to the tacos and it really is simple to make.
The last step in this recipe is to assemble the dowels.
Put a portion of the shrimp topped with the cabbage mix on each corn tortilla and serve with lemon wedges.

I usually use precooked shrimp for all my shrimp recipes. Since these are already precooked, preparing them does not take time and I prepare dinner at the table in less time.
Precooked shrimp are generally already frozen when purchased. For easy thawing, I place the shrimp in a strainer in my sink and run cold water over the shrimp for about 5-10 minutes, depending on how many shrimp I have until they are completely thawed.
You will know that shrimp are completely thawed because they will fold easily without breaking. They are fast enough to defrost with this process.
Then I usually heat the butter, olive oil, or chicken stock (as in this recipe) in my skillet to heat this up first and then add the shrimp to the hot skillet. Then I add all the seasonings and spices for the recipe I'm making.
Finally sauté the shrimp for less than 5 minutes and it will always be perfect. Since the shrimp are already cooked, you are simply heating the shrimp and marinating it in the spices to get the flavors of the recipe you are preparing.
You shouldn't cook the shrimp for more than 5 minutes, as it can make the shrimp overcook and harden, which won't taste as good in these delicious tacos.
I know it took a while to explain, but I promise it's easy, and once you get it the first time, you'll have more confidence and be able to conquer even more delicious shrimp recipes.
How to change this healthy shrimp taco recipe.
If you're eating outside and grilling, you can grill shrimp instead of sautéing them. I would just roast the shrimp for 3-4 minutes and roasting them would add a delicious flavor to this recipe.
Another easy way to change this recipe is to change what is mixed with the shrimp taco salad. Most of the flavor in this recipe comes from the cabbage salad, so it's not surprising that altering the cabbage salad can easily change this.
Here are some recommendations to consider adding to the cabbage recipe.
- Sour cream or mayonnaise to the cabbage salad recipe, if you prefer a cream-based cabbage salad for your shrimp tacos.
- Chipotles to the cabbage salad recipe, if you like a spicy and smoky flavor to your tacos.
