This homemade macaroni and cheese casserole is the best you've ever had. Tender noodles in a velvety sauce for the perfectly irresistible dish !!
- 12 oz dry macaroni
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1/4 cup flour
- 1 1/2 cups milk
- 1 cup light cream about 10-12% MF
- 1/2 teaspoon dry mustard powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- salt and pepper to taste
- 1 can of optional condensed cheddar cream 10.75 oz
- 4 cups divided cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup of fresh Parmesan cheese
Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
Cook the macaroni according to the package directions. Drain and run under cold water.
Melt the butter over medium heat in a large saucepan. Beat the flour and cook for 2 minutes while stirring. Slowly beat cream, milk, onion powder, mustard powder, salt and pepper to taste. Cook over medium heat while stirring until thick.
Remove from heat and add Parmesan cheese and 3 cups of cheddar cheese until melted. Add soup if used.
Mix together the cheese sauce and macaroni noodles. Pour into a greased 9×13 pan. Top with remaining cheese.
Bake 18-24 minutes or until bubbly. Don't overcook. Let cool 10-15 minutes before serving.
