These Makeover Cranberry Bliss Bars are so good, with less than half the calories and fat of those you buy at Starbucks, and so much cheaper to manufacture yourself! A blondie cookie bar with piles of white chocolate chips and dried cranberries, topped with sweet cream cheese, sour dried cranberries and white chocolate drizzle – perfect for the holidays!
I got a request this year to lighten Starbucks Cranberry Bliss Bars – this make-over turned out to be excellent! I was able to cut fat and calories more than HALF, yet they taste indulgent. The original bar is 340 calories with 19 grams of fat; this lighter version is just 149 calories with 5 grams of fat.
Last year I tried to make these lights, but did not have much success. I had used whole wheat flour and I think it was my death – it gave the bars an unpleasant structure and scent that I really didn't enjoy.
This time, I used gold medal flour for all purposes and the results were excellent. After all, this is dessert, and even though I try to use whole grains in all my meals, it doesn't always work when I bake. If you need a dessert for a holiday party, these are great. Leave them in the refrigerator until ready to serve.

Skinny Cranberry Bliss Bars
These Makeover Cranberry Bliss Bars are so good, with less than half the calories and fat of those you buy at Starbucks, and so much cheaper to manufacture yourself!
- 2 cups of flour for all purposes, gold medal
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/8 tsp ground cinnamon
- 2/3 cup of granulated sugar
- 2/3 cup brown sugar, not packed
- 1/4 cup melted unsalted butter
- 2 large egg whites
- 1/4 cup unsweetened apple sauce
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 2/3 cup white chocolate chips or chopped white chocolate
- 1/3 cup dried cranberries, chopped
- 8 oz 1/3 less fat cream cheese, softened
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 2 ounces white baking chocolate, melted *
- 1/3 cup dried cranberries, chopped
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Preheat oven to 350 ° F. Lightly spray a 9 x 13 inch non-stick baking pan with cooking spray.
In a large bowl, combine flour, baking powder, salt and cinnamon and stir to mix.
Whisk the sugars with butter, egg whites, egg sauce and vanilla until light and fluffy.
Beat the dry ingredients in the wet ingredients in two additions until the dough is very well mixed. If the dough looks more "crumbly" than smooth, just add one drop of water at a time (ONLY if necessary) until it smooths.
Fold in white chocolate chips and 1/3 cup cranberries. Spread the dough on the baking pan using the back of a measuring cup to smooth evenly.
Bake 10 – 14 minutes until the edges are light brown and a inserted toothpick comes out. Do not bake too well, otherwise your columns will become dry. Let it cool completely on the wire rack.
In the meantime, prepare the frosting; In a large bowl, use an electric mixer to beat the cream cheese, powdered sugar and vanilla until well blended. Frost bars and sprinkle with remaining cranberries. Sprinkle with the melted white chocolate.
* To melt the chocolate, place in a microwave safe cup and heat for 15 seconds; touch. Another 15 seconds; stir until the chocolate has melted.
When the chocolate settles, cut into 15 large squares (5 slices with 3 slices with the knife). Then cut each square in half diagonally to create triangles. Store in the refrigerator until ready to serve.
