This chocolate cream cake is an old family recipe. Flaky, buttery crust with a deliciously creamy chocolate filling. Topped with a fresh whipped cream it's just to die for! Perfect for chocolate and cake lovers!

I used a normal pie crust, because that's what I had on hand. Although it would also be fantastic in a chocolate chip cookie crust. I have an old fashioned banana cream pie which is one of my most popular recipes on the blog.

Rich and creamy chocolate cream cake

This rich and creamy chocolate cream cake is amazing! So easy, you'll never be tempted to get one from the store again.

Preparation time 20 minutes

Cooling time 4 hours

Total time 4 hours 20 minutes

Ingredients

Whipped cream

  • 3 cups thick whipped cream
  • 1/3 cup powdered sugar

Chocolate filling

  • 4 tablespoons of butter
  • 4 ounces semi sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 8 oz package cream cheese (softened)
  • 3 cups of whipped cream prepared (the rest will go on top)
  • 1 9 "deep plate cake crust

Instructions

  1. Bake the cake batter according to package directions
  2. For the whipped topping: In a medium bowl with an electric mixer, beat 3 cups heavy whipped cream and powdered sugar on high until stiff peaks form for about 5 minutes. chill until ready to use. (This should make 5-6 cups of whipped cream)
  3. In large bowl with electric mixer, beat softened cream cheese, cocoa powder, and powdered sugar until smooth. Set aside.
  4. In a small bowl add the chocolate chips and butter, microwave for 30 seconds. Stir and microwave again in 15 second increments until melted.
  5. Using the electric mixer, mix the melted chocolate and 3 cups of the whipped cream in the cream cheese mixture until combined.
  6. Spread the chocolate filling on the cake batter. Refrigerate for 4 hours. Spread the remaining whipped cream on top.
  7. Decorate with chocolate shavings
