This tropical fruit salad is non-alcoholic and gets its name from pi̱a colada from Рyou guessed it Рpi̱a colada mix, without alcohol I use the stable liquid pina colada mix on the shelf instead of the frozen canned one.

I added coconut and almond extracts for an extra boost of tropical flavors. I am a huge fan of both extracts and work them on any recipe I can. They really lend themselves to the warm, tropical summer atmosphere of this pineapple fruit salad.

This summer fruit salad is perfect for parties, shared meals, or holidays such as Memorial Day, Fourth of July, or Labor Day.

Or make this fruit salad as a way to take advantage of all the fruits you accidentally bought at the farmers market when your eyes were bigger than your stomach. Everything looks so good in the summer, and I am guilty of the charges!

What is in the tropical fruit salad?

To prepare the pineapple fruit salad, you will need:

  • Strawberries
  • grapes
  • Blueberries
  • Pineapple chunks
  • Sweetened coconut flakes

And to make the fruit salad dressing, you will need:

  • Pina colada mix (alcohol-free)
  • Pineapple juice
  • Almond extract
  • Vanilla extract

How to make fruit salad

Simply chop the fruit into small pieces if necessary, then mix in a large bowl along with the coconut. Then, mix the fruit salad dressing and pour over the fruit mixture.

Refrigerate the tropical fruit salad before serving to allow the fruit to soak up some of that delicious dressing.

Can I use different fruits in this recipe?

While I used strawberries, grapes, blueberries, and pineapple in this tropical fruit salad, the recipe will work with anything from peaches to nectarines, kiwi, raspberries, and blackberries. You can mix and match the amounts of fruit based on what you have on hand and enjoy more. It is a very flexible recipe that everyone loves.

How long is the fruit salad?

This summer fruit salad will last up to 3 days in the fridge. Stir well before serving leftovers, as a lot of juice accumulates in the bottom of the bowl.

Tips for making tropical fruit salad

If you use grapes in your fruit salad, I recommend buying a seedless variety. Otherwise, you will spend half your time picking seeds from your mouth while eating this tropical fruit salad.

For the best flavor and texture, use fresh and unfrozen fruits to make this recipe. I also used canned pineapple in juice (not heavy syrup), but that's the only canned fruit I would use in this mix.

You can definitely add the fruit salad with rum for an adult-only crowd. Malibu Rum would be perfect here and that looks like it could be a lot of fun.

Fruit salad

  • 2 cups fresh strawberries, peeled and cut in half
  • 1 cup red seedless grapes
  • 1 cup green seedless grapes
  • 1 cup fresh blueberries
  • 1 cup canned pineapple chunks, drained; reserve juice
  • 1/2 cup loose sweetened coconut flakes


  • 1/3 cup non-alcoholic pina colada mix (wants liquid, not frozen cans)
  • 1/4 cup pineapple juice
  • 1/4 teaspoon coconut extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon of almond extract


    1. In a large bowl, add optional strawberries, grapes, blueberries, pineapple chunks, and coconut; set aside.
    2. In a medium bowl, add the pina colada mixture, pineapple juice, extracts, and mix to combine. Depending on how "spicy" you like your fruit salad, feel free to add more piña colada mix or pineapple juice.
    3. Pour over fruit, mix to combine, and refrigerate to cool before serving.


  • The fruit salad will remain airtight in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
