Made from chilled crescent roll dough, these super easy pepper cheese spirals are cheesy and buttery and work great as an appetizer or as rolls served with dinner.
I love to use the crescent dough for almost anything. He really is a busy cook best friend. It tastes wonderful and is a great time saver. Of course, the half moon rolls taste divine on their own, but they also taste great when stuffed with savory or sweet fillings (check out these Reese Half Moon Rolls).
Pepper cheese has been a staple food of the south for generations. There are variations in how it is prepared, but it is essentially a mixture of cheddar cheese, mayonnaise (sometimes cream cheese), and chopped peppers, the taste of which is almost identical to that of roasted red peppers.
Traditionally, pepper cheese has been served as a snack spread with crackers or as a sandwich that is filled between 2 soft pieces of white bread, but today it is being used in all sorts of creative ways: burgers, cheese pizzas Pepper, tortillas, Mac pepper and cheese, and even fried pepper balls! It's a lot of fun using it to add that special southern touch to almost any savory dish.
To fill these crescent spirals, I just made a simple spread of mayonnaise pepper, cream cheese, cheddar cheese (you should grate yours instead of using pre-grated. The flavor is much better), bell peppers and a little ground red pepper.

You can use another pepper cheese to make these, or even a store-bought pepper cheese, but you want to spread quite thickly, so if yours is heavy on mayonnaise, you may want to add more cheese to it.
Open a can of crescent rolls, roll out the flat dough and press the seams together. Spread with the pepper cheese mixture, roll up and cut into small pieces of cinnamon. This is the most difficult part because the dough wants to flatten when you cut it. But you can remodel them a bit once they are cut. Bake in the oven for 13 to 15 minutes for a delicious southern delicacy filled with cheese.

Refrigerated crescent-shaped dough filled with bell pepper cheese and cut into spirals. Makes rolls easy and tasty!
- 2 ounces softened cream cheese
- 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
- 3/4 cup chopped cheddar cheese
- 1 jar (4 ounces) diced bell peppers, well drained
- 2 chopped green onions
- 1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1 (8 beads) refrigerated crescent rolls
Heat the oven to 375 degrees.
Using an electric mixer or wooden spoon, mix all the ingredients except the growing dough.
Unroll the dough and press the seams together.
Spread the cream cheese mixture over the dough.
Starting on 1 long side, roll the dough.
Cut into 16 slices and place on a baking sheet covered with cooking spray.
Bake 13 to 15 minutes or until golden.
Note: Depending on how many bell peppers you want in your bell cheese, you may not want to use the entire 4-ounce jar. Be the judge.
