I love giving this to my kids because they can easily take them outside to play, and they have no idea that these candies are so good for them. I'm willing to sneak out of extra fruits and vegetables when I can!

In addition to my children, my husband and I also love smoothies.
It's an easy way to pack many of the vitamins and nutrients we need in one convenient package that we can take to our desks as we struggle to get things done.
Here are some of my favorite smoothie recipes, and some of my favorite bloggers!
Are fruit smoothies a healthy breakfast?
Homemade smoothies are much better for you than those in the frozen section of your supermarket.
When creating these at home, you can prioritize ingredients, while other store-bought options may include preservatives or sugary supplements.
I like to make sure we have some fruit, some fat, and some protein (often walnut butter or Greek yogurt) as a base.
From there, you can add vegetables or grains if you want to further increase the nutritional value.
What do you put in a smoothie?
Almost everything! I like to add a handful of spinach, frozen fruit, fruit juices, peanut butter … it's all a matter of what you enjoy!
As long as you start with your liquid ingredients and add your firmer ingredients at the end (those high water frozen fruits!), You can make a smoothie out of almost anything.
Here are some other smoothie add-on ideas:
- Spinach, Kale, Green Leaves
- Walnuts, seeds, oats
- Nut butter
- Milk, almond milk and other dairy alternatives.
- Protein powder
- Fruit juices: try to stick to those without added sugar!
The good thing is that a lot of the ingredients that are less appealing to my kids are mixed together in a smoothie, so they don't even realize it 😉
Preparing smoothies in advance:
Smoothies are really easy to prepare ahead of time. Many of these ingredients are freezer safe, and it really doesn't matter how pretty they look, they'll still be pureed and blended!
Here's a tip: If you have multiple bananas that are on the verge of browning, peel them, cut them in half, and then freeze in a sandwich bag. When you're ready to mix a smoothie, scoop out what you need, and voila!
You can also assemble sandwich bags with all the ingredients you need for a single smoothie. This makes hectic mornings so easy. Just take out the single serving, add liquid and mix!
