Breakfast, the most important (and my personal favorite) meal of the day. Although I really enjoy breakfast sandwiches (like our popular ones croissant breakfast sandwich), you can't go wrong with a loaded omelet, the fast one French toast casserole or even sausage sauce with homemade biscuits.

What is a monte cristo sandwich?

A Monte Cristo sandwich is a variation of the popular French Croque-Monsieur sandwich. Sandwiches are often also called the French sandwich, toasted ham sandwich and even French toasted ham and cheese sandwich. It really depends on where you are from and what you grew up with.

How to make a Monte Cristo sandwich?

This sandwich is assembled so quickly that you want to make sure you're ready to eat and all the ingredients are prepped.

  1. In a Cheers. whisk together eggs, half & half, salt & pepper. TIP: If you use sweet filling sandwiches, you can skip salt and pepper.
  2. Dip slices of bread quickly into the egg mixture.
  3. Add slices of bread and the remaining egg forehead.
  4. Cook one side of the bread and flip the bread.
  5. Top with cheese and ham, close sandwich. Cook until the cheese melts.
  6. Enjoy, friends.
Chef's Tip – You can make this sandwich in one of two ways, bake the bread in the egg mixture, roast and then add ham and cheese. OR, you can add the cheese and ham to the bread slices, then gently dip the whole sandwich in egg mixture and roast that way.

Classic Monte Cristo Sandwich that will be your favorite breakfast sandwich! Load ham and cheese between slices of bread, which are generated deep in an egg mixture and cooked until the slices of bread are crispy.

Preparation time: 5 minutes

Cooking time: 10 minutes

Total time: 15 minutes

Servings: 1 sandwich

  • 2 slices of bread
  • 2 large eggs
  • 3 tablespoons half and half creams
  • 1/4 cup shredded cheese
  • 3 slices of ham
  • salt & pepper, to taste
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • In a deep dish, combine eggs, half and half, salt and pepper.
  • Dip the bread slices into the egg mixture on all sides.

  • Heat oil and butter in a frying pan, add the bread slices and pour the remaining egg mixture around the bread slices. Close the lid and cook on medium heat until the eggs are cooked.
  • Turn out the bread slices and fold the egg mixture on the bread.
  • Top one bread slice with cheese and the other with ham, and close the sandwich.

  • Cover with lid and let the cheese melt.

  • Enjoy.
