Mexican hot chocolate granola

We regularly make granola in our house and in fact I've been making this hot chocolate mexican granola for weeks but I am so excited to finally share it with you all.

Filled with hot spices like cinnamon and nutmeg, plus two types of chocolate, your family will love this addictive snack. A pinch of pepper gives it a little kick, but feel free to add more or skip it entirely.

Since the granola is mixed with honey and olive oil, I think the subtle touch of heat is the perfect spice to balance out the sweetness of this chocolate granola.

Homemade Mexican granola recipe with hot chocolate

This easy recipe for homemade chocolate granola is scented with cinnamon and filled with whole grains, nuts, and flax seeds.

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup honey
  • 1/2 cup olive or canola oil
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 2 teaspoons of cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon of nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla
  • 1/2 teaspoon of cayenne (optional)
  • 3 cups oatmeal
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts
  • 1/2 cup of linseed flour
  • 1 cup of chocolate chips

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 300 degrees and line a baking sheet with parchment paper suitable for the oven.
  • In a large bowl, mix the first 8 ingredients: honey through cayenne.
  • Add all remaining ingredients (oatmeal through flaxseed meal) and stir until everything is evenly coated with the chocolate mixture.
  • Spread the oatmeal and walnut mixture evenly on a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake for 30 minutes. Let cool in the pan for 30 minutes and then divide the granola into small pieces.
  • Mix the granola with the chocolate chips before serving.
