It only takes a few simple ingredients to make these lush apple bars without baking caramel. This layered dessert has a graham cracker crust, a sweet cheesecake filling, then caramel-flavored pudding and a whipped topping.

It's apple season! Autumn has officially arrived. Apple desserts are some of our favorites when the colder weather strikes. Apple Dumplings and Apple Cobbler are the BEST when we crave warm apple desserts. However, quick and easy Caramel Apple Lush Bars are a great non-bake option that gets cold.

Lush bars are simply a layered dessert that some often call a dessert lasagna. Both are a crust with layers of delicacy. My lush pumpkin bars require a bit of cooking, but these lush apple and caramel bars require none because they use a simple graham cracker crust.

The layer of sweet cream cheese is very fast. Just combine softened cream cheese and powdered sugar. It's just cream cheese sweetened like a cheesecake.

For the pudding layer, I combined caramel with an instant caramel pudding. The flavor profile is excellent and well established. I thought about making a homemade caramel pudding that I found in Sally's pastry addiction. But I decided to keep the recipe as simple as possible.

Caramel and apple combine very well together. For the apple layer, the homemade apple pie filling or the store bought one works very well. I put the apples on top of the pudding. You can also mix them with the pudding before layering them.

  • Sugar
  • Apple pie filling
  • Cream cheese
  • Instant caramel pudding
  • Milk
  • Caramel topping
  • Fresh whip

How to make lush apple and caramel bars

First, the graham cracker crust needs preparation. You will need to combine the crumbs, butter and sugar. Press mixture into 8X8 baking dish. Then refrigerate for about 30 minutes. It will establish very quickly.

Next, beat the softened cream cheese and sugar. Make sure the mixture is smooth.

Then spread the thick layer on top of the prepared crust.

Whisk together the pudding mixture and milk. The pudding will establish very quickly. Then add the caramel topping. Shop-bought or homemade caramel topping will be just as tasty!

Add the pudding mixture to the top of the cream cheese layer.

Then cut the apple pie filling. I think the smaller apple pieces work best for this layered apple dessert.

Add the prepared apples evenly to the pudding layer.

Finally, top with Cool-Whip or homemade whipped cream.

Feel free to add chopped nuts or sprinkled caramel on top to make the dessert more elegant. I prefer peanuts like a caramel apple.

Refrigerate and then cut into bars before serving.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cup crushed Graham crackers
  • 2 tablespoons of sugar
  • 6 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 8 oz softened cream cheese
  • 1/4 cup of sugar
  • 8 oz Cool Whip
  • 3.4 ounce packet of instant caramel pudding
  • 1 1/2 cups cold milk
  • 1/3 cup caramel topping
  • 21 oz apple pie filling
  • 1/4 cup chopped walnuts optional

Instructions

  • Mix together graham cracker crumbs, 2 tablespoons sugar, and melted butter.
  • Press into the bottom of an 8 Ɨ 8 ā€baking sheet.
  • Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  • Beat cream cheese and remaining 1/4 cup sugar with a mixer until fluffy.
  • Spread the mixture evenly over the crust.
  • In a bowl, combine the pudding mixture with the cold milk and beat for 2 minutes.
  • Whisk in the caramel topping.
  • Spread the mixture evenly over the cream cheese layer.
  • Spread the cake filling evenly over the pudding layer.
  • Spread Cool Whip evenly over the cake filling.
  • Optionally, sprinkle top with chopped walnuts.
  • Refrigerate at least an hour before serving.
