We love a good celebration and it's the perfect opportunity to bake a delicious cake recipe. A yellow cake for a birthday surprise, a wet carrot cake for Easter, the perfect flag cake to celebrate July 4th, and a pretty leafy cake to celebrate a new baby!
Honestly, I love celebrations and my friend Julianne from Beyond Frosting is expecting a baby, so what better time to bake a cake and celebrate. Julianne makes the most delicious desserts (including this Nutella Snickers cake recipe from her cookbook).
With a new baby around, time (and energy) will be a thing of the past (at least for a while), so I decided to share some of my favorite tips for preparing a gift that tastes like it's been hours (instead of minutes) ) preparing it!

Why I love boxed cake mixes

How to make a better cake mix
There are many ways to improve a cake mix! These are just additional additions to make it rich and delicious without much effort!
Choose one or two of the following methods to make your cake mix bakery quality!
ADD ADDITIONAL FAT
Butter makes everything taste amazing, so try going overboard with butter (or oil) a bit and add more. It will make your cake rich and give it that flavor made from scratch. As you do so, be sure to swap the oil for butter.
ADD MAYONNAIS OR SOUR CREAM
Hope for?! You read it well. I add mayonnaise to my easy banana bread and even homemade chocolate cake to make it moist.
Adding a few tablespoons of mayonnaise to any standard boxed mix will ensure your cake stays moist and delicious longer.
Use milk, buttermilk, or even coconut milk instead of water to make your cake mix a little bit richer. Produces a denser, more homemade flavor and texture!
Turn up the liquids, add to the cake, and add a box of jelly pudding with any flavor. The pudding helps to thicken the mix and make it rich, dense, and delicious!
ADD AN ADDITIONAL EGG
If you're in a hurry and don't have time for all the extra details, just try adding another egg to your mix. You won't believe the difference it makes!
Have you ever added some delicious toppings to your recipe? You can take your boxed cake from monotonous to fabulous in no time! Try adding some crushed Oreo, chocolate candy, sprinkles, or even preserves. The only limit is your imagination!
Make your icing from scratch
Even if you don't have time to bake the cake from scratch, the icing should be. It is the main difference between the simple flavors of the boxed cake and the exquisite style of the handmade treat. Some favorites:
Vanilla butter cake

- 1 box of white cake mix (or any flavor)
- 1 box vanilla pudding mix (any flavor)
- 4 large eggs
- 1/2 cup milk or coconut milk
- 1/3 cup butter
- 1/2 cup sour cream
Preheat oven to 350 ° F. Grease 9 × 13 baking sheet.
Place all of the cake mix ingredients in a bowl. Mix with an electric mixer on medium speed until well combined and fluffy.
Pour into a greased baking dish and bake until a toothpick comes out clean.
Cool completely before frosting.
