I remember the first time I saw poultry seasoning at my local supermarket. I was intrigued and bought a little to put on some turkey legs. I had no idea what would happen to those turkey legs, but I quickly realized that the bird seasoning was a bit magical when used correctly.
What is in the poultry seasoning?
Poultry Seasoning is a salt-free seasoning made up of the following ingredients:
- Black pepper
Chances are, you already have all of these ingredients in your closet. If it doesn't, you should be able to find them easily at your local supermarket.
How to do it?
Combine the spices in a bowl and stir to make sure they are completely incorporated. Use them in your favorite recipe that requires poultry seasoning or be creative. Store poultry seasoning in a small jar or spice container in a cool, dry, dark cabinet. It will last about 2-3 years with proper storage.
How to use it?
You'll find plenty of reasons to use poultry seasoning, especially this holiday season. I love roast turkey and smothered chicken. It is also amazing in the filling.
When using this seasoning, a little helps a lot. I tend to use around 1-2 tablespoons in most recipes. Plus, other spices added to poultry seasoning are great for bringing out the flavor of your favorite poultry recipes.
- This is a salt-free seasoning. So you'll want to make sure your plate has a little salt to bring out the flavor of the seasoning.
- You want to make sure of the spices that you are not old. Ground spices are good in the closet for 1-3 years. To test whether a spice is fresh or not, rub the spices between your fingers and smell. You should be able to tell if they are still fresh if they are fragrant. How long do spices last It really depends on the spice and storage.
