Start with your favorite mashed tomatoes. We love San Marzano Italian tomatoes and a 28 ounce can is all you need to make about 3 cups of tomato sauce. All you need is simple flavorings: garlic, extra virgin olive oil, fine sea salt, and dried oregano.

You may be tempted to add more than 1/2 tablespoon of salt, but after the flavors melt together, the sauce will be perfect. Also, remember that its ingredients (like cheese) will also add salt to your pizza.

How to make pizza sauce:

To make this easy tomato ketchup for pizza, all you need is a blender or food processor and no cooking required, seriously!

  1. Mix all ingredients together until well combined.
  2. Cover and refrigerate for at least 3 hours or up to 7 days before use. It is better the next day.

We love this red sauce because it is a preparatory recipe. It keeps really good for at least a week in the fridge and improves over time as the flavors combine. We love it the next day, which is perfect with our pizza dough overnight.

  • FREEZE: You can also freeze pizza sauce by dividing it into freezer-friendly zippered bags, removing extra air, and sealing. Lie down in the freezer and it will be quicker to defrost.
