High octane hot chocolate is what happens when you combine coffee, cocoa, kahlua, and vodka and then add it with a generous handful of marshmallows. While it may sound like crazy sweetness, it really isn't. This is a warm, smooth and chocolate mocha with a generous touch of alcohol. Marshmallows are fun and sweeten the drink perfectly. If you're a fan of the sweetest drinks, just add a few more marshmallows or swap them out with a tablespoon of whipped cream if that's your style.

This high-octane hot chocolate was waiting for me the last time I came to my sister's door. She called me as we drove to Albuquerque to verify how close we were to her home. We had been driving for about 7 hours and having these hot and full drinks delivered to us within a few minutes of walking through their door was the best we could have imagined.

High Octane Hot Chocolate

Servings: 2 servings

  • 4 ounces of hot coffee or espresso, whichever you prefer
  • 4 ounces of homemade or store brand hot chocolate
  • 2 ounces vodka
  • 2 ounces kahlua
  • Optional ingredients: miniature marshmallows cocoa powder

I love these Bodum glasses as much for how beautiful they are as for their ability to hold hot and cold drinks. However, any mug or cup that can handle a hot drink will work perfectly for this cocktail. That said, this might not be the perfect time to use that cup of travel coffee; This is definitely not a coffee or cocoa for the road.
