How simple is this ham and cheese quiche? Seriously! It's one of those recipes when, if you really don't know what to do for breakfast, it's safe.

WHY IS IT CALLED QUICHE?

The word quiche comes from the German word for cake. History says the original Quiche Lorraine was an open pie consisting of eggs, cream, and bacon.

Over the years it has adapted to different shapes and cheese has been added regularly to quiche recipes.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A QUICHE AND A FRITTATA?

When you think of a quick frittata, you almost imagine the same thing. Both are egg dishes that generally consist of salty fillings.

The difference between the two is that a frittata has no crust, as, like a quiche, it usually has a pie crust of some sort, but you can also make a quiche without a crust.

This tasty recipe is perfect for any day of the week, while we generally save these babies for the weekend when we know everyone is home and we can all eat together.

There are some dishes that I really feel like bringing a family together and this has always been one of them, ever since I was young my mother had always prepared them so it's nostalgic.

DO YOU HAVE TO PRE-BAKE THE CRUST?

We didn't pre-bake our crust, but you can absolutely, but I wouldn't bake to the end. Maybe I can bake half the time suggested on the package.

We don't normally bake it until all the quiche comes in and we've never had a problem with the soaked crust, but if you're nervous about that, pre-bake.

TIPS AND TRICKS:

  • You can use homemade, frozen, or refrigerated pie crust for this recipe.
  • We use a deep plate for this, so when we use the refrigerated crust, we stretch it slightly to make it longer and easier to flute.
  • You don't have to skip the onions if you don't want to, they will soften a little when baking.
  • You can easily. change the filling of this recipe to suit what you like, we often do this Sausage version.
