Summer is my favorite time of year, which means it's officially the GRILLING season! Our grill is always in constant use during the spring / summer months because it is so easy to use with little cleaning and I don't know about you, but it is so much better off the grill! Not only can you grill chicken, fish, steak, skewers, I mean call it, but, guys, grilling pizza can be the best thing you do all season.

One of my favorite things to do in the summer is hosting events in our backyard and since we built our house last year, having friends and family has been the best part of our move! If you follow me on Instagram, then you know how I love to organize a good party and with that comes to make delicious food! Grilling is essential for an outdoor gathering, and sometimes it's good to mix things up. Instead of serving up your usual summer favorites, having your guests make their own personal pizzas can be a lot more fun!

When deciding on pizza ingredients, I ALL like flavor combinations, so I knew I needed the Aidells® Dinner Sausage on my pizza. I've been a big fan of sausage links for quite a while, not only because they're made in small batches using the highest quality meats and natural ingredients, but they're also made without added hormones or nitrites so I can really feel good. with what you're eating!

It offers several delicious products, all with unexpected flavor combinations, such as Swiss bacon, sun-dried tomato with mozzarella, Cajun-style andouille, and even Havana with pepper jack cheese. For this particular recipe, I used smoked chicken and apple sausage links that contain their signature spice blend along with delicious apple wedges in every bite.

As you can see above, for a limited time, each sausage link pack currently has a sticker containing a unique summer recipe, so be sure to look for it in the pack the next time you visit the store!

To really bring out that apple flavor in this sausage, I covered each pizza with some fresh apple slices along with goat cheese, baby arugula, and finished with a drizzle of sweet honey vinaigrette. If you're not a fan of goat cheese, you can use some gorgonzola (which tastes delicious with apples!), Burrata, or whatever cheese you prefer. This pizza was amazing and was the perfect combination of sweet and savory!

If you're making pizza at a patio cookout or even on a camping trip, it's important to pre-cut all of your ingredients in advance. I sliced all the apples and put each of the ingredients in individual containers so that the assembly was enjoyable and easy for everyone! We grill the chicken sausage and cut it into slices just before adding it to the pizzas.

To make the honey vinaigrette, I whipped up some olive oil, some honey, Dijon mustard, and fresh lemon juice and drizzled it over the pizza and arugula, which really gave the pizza a sweet and cool! If you have any extra toppings left over, be sure to save them because it tastes great on salads, too. I really make this vinaigrette a lot, so I wanted to use it on this pizza. A tried and true dressing that tastes delicious in everything!

Now if you thought it was easy to make, grilling the pizza itself is even easier! To keep things simple, we used naan flatbreads that were brushed with a little olive oil. Naan fries very well on the grill and is the perfect size for individual pizzas. However, the key to a good grilled pizza is to place the ingredients on the pizza while it is on the grill! You should roast the naan first before adding the ingredients, about 2-3 minutes per side, until you see some good charcoal marks and this is also a good time to go ahead and cook your sausage. Then once the naan is done, simply add your cooked sausage, apple slices, and goat cheese to the grill for an additional 4 to 6 minutes until the cheese is good and gooey. Easy right?

This pizza is definitely a new summer favorite and one that I can really enjoy eating due to all the fresh flavors and quality ingredients. I purchased all of these ingredients from my local Safeway. You can easily find your nearest Safeway store in your store search here! Safeway offers tons of delicious recipes for summer recipes, so be sure to check them out!

So whether you're throwing a backyard party or planning a fun camping trip with friends, this grilled pizza with sausage, apple, and goat cheese is sure to be a winner for your family this summer! I hope you enjoy this recipe as much as we do!
