Chocolate needs its own section in the food pyramid. Life is much better with a little chocolate. Especially in the form of giant double chocolate cookies that are as soft, fluffy, and as big as your hand.
I have been thinking about making these cookies ever since I took my daughter to New York City and tried all the cookies at Levain Bakery. Levain Bakery Double Chocolate Chip Cookies were our favorites, even more so than regular chocolate chip cookies, believe it or not.
These giant double chocolate chip cookies are so soft and just the right amount of chocolate. They stay soft almost forever, as long as you store them in an airtight container. They are almost a cross between a cookie and a brownie, and that is definitely a wonderful thing.
Despite its size, it is easy to finish one or two in one night. It might even encourage you to try seeing it for yourself.
I firmly believe that these giant double chocolate chip cookies are best with chopped nuts. But if you have an allergy, or just don't like it, feel free to leave it out! If you like walnuts but don't have walnuts, chopped walnuts or even pistachios would work, too.
I also recommend using a mix of chocolate chips and chopped chocolate in your giant Levain Bakery-style double chocolate cookies. That way, you get pools of melted chocolate on all of your cookies, especially when they're hot and perfect. Along with a glass of ice milk, you just described my perfect night.

The cookie dough for these Levain Bakery giant double chocolate chip cookies doesn't need to be chilled, which is the best part because who wants to wait longer than they need?
That being said, you can chill or freeze the cookie dough without baking to save for another time. I recommend dividing the dough into balls before storing them in an airtight container.
