Growing up, our family had a fence in our backyard where fresh blackberries grew every summer. We had to hurry up to beat the competition (the birds and bees loved it too) because those delicious, juicy berries went fast.

If I'm going to enjoy an adult drink, nine times out of ten it involves tequila. This Blackberry Margarita is a unique twist on a classic favorite cocktail, and tastes as amazing as it sounds!

The main blackberry season is July through August, so this is the perfect time to take advantage of the new selections that await in your local market. (Although don't worry, you can also use frozen blackberries if that's what's available – these results will still be fantastic!)

Blackberry Margarita Ingredients:

  • 2 pints of fresh blackberries
  • 1/4 cup lime juice
  • 2 cups of ice
  • 1 cup of tequila
  • 1/4 cup triple sec (or other orange-flavored liqueur)
  • 2 TB of sugar, optional

How to make frozen blackberry margaritas

Place all ingredients in a blender-style blender and puree until smooth. Mix longer for a smoother, more liquid cocktail, or mix quickly for a cooler drink.

TIP: If fresh berries are not in season, you can substitute frozen berries for them.

Pour into a margarita glass and garnish with a lemon wedge or a stick full of blackberries.

To Serve Your Blackberry Margaritas "On the Rocks"

Puree blackberries in a high-powered blender or use a juicer to extract the juice.

Add blackberry juice, tequila, orange liqueur, and lime juice to a large cocktail shaker and stir vigorously until well combined. Pour into a glass full of ice cubes.

Ingredients

  • 2 pints of fresh blackberries can replace frozen
  • 1/4 cup lime juice
  • 2 cups of ice
  • 1 cup of tequila
  • 1/4 cup triple sec or other orange-flavored liqueur
  • 2 tablespoons of optional sugar

Instructions

  1. Place all ingredients in a blender-style blender and puree until smooth. (If you use frozen berries, use 1 less cup of ice.)
