This filling recipe is very easy. Sausages, apples, and blueberries paired with fresh herbs and buttered breadcrumbs!

This filling recipe only takes a few minutes to prepare and couldn't be easier to prepare. I use fresh apples, dried cranberries, and golden sausages to bring store-bought breadcrumbs to life. For this recipe, I've always used unseasoned breadcrumbs. I just discard the dry seasoning packet. The last time I was in the store, they only had seasoned breadcrumbs and it was great too! So I think it's okay to use what's available, just adjust the added salt as needed.

Saut├ę onions and celery in large skillet. Then add the sausage, breaking as it browns. Add fresh herbs, apples, and blueberries and get ready for your house to smell like Thanksgiving! I think it's the fresh sage that really reminds me of the holidays!

Then add the breadcrumbs and the broth. Top with melted butter and bake covered until broth is absorbed, then uncover until lightly toasted.

This can easily be done ahead of time and baked just before serving. Just allow extra time for baking as it will chill out of the refrigerator. I also have a slow cooker filling recipe if you need to free up some oven space during a festive meal.

Easy Stuffed Recipe – Stuffed Apple and Cranberry Sausage


  • 2 tablespoons of olive oil

  • 1 medium onion, diced

  • 2 celery stalks diced

  • 1 pound of sausage

  • 1 teaspoon of salt

  • freshly ground pepper to taste

  • 2 tablespoons minced fresh sage

  • 2 teaspoons minced fresh rosemary

  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh flat-leaf parsley

  • 1 large delicious golden apple, cored and diced

  • 3/4 cups dried cranberries

  • 2 cups turkey or chicken broth

  • 6 6 cups dry unseasoned bread cubes

  • 4 4 tablespoons butter, melted


  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. In a large skillet, heat the onions and celery over medium heat until smooth. Add the sausage, breaking as it browns. Once the sausage is well cooked, season with salt, pepper and add the fresh herbs. Then add the diced apples, blueberries, breadcrumbs, and stock.

  2. Transfer the filling mixture to a 9 ├Ś 13 baking pan that has been sprayed with nonstick cooking spray, drizzle the melted butter over the filling mixture and cover well with aluminum foil. Bake for 25 minutes covered, then for another 20 uncovered until the filling is lightly toasted. Sprinkle with additional fresh herbs before serving.
