1 cup (200 grams) light brown sugar, packaged 4 tablespoons unsalted butter * 1 teaspoon sea salt, or to taste 1/2 a half cup (or use equal parts thick cream and milk) 1 tablespoon extract real vanilla
* If you use salted butter, cut the salt to 1/2 teaspoon or add it to taste.
To make salted caramel sauce easier:
1. Combine all ingredients in saucepan and simmer, whisking constantly or until thickened and no longer watering (6-9 minutes). Note that it thickens more as it cools.
PS That is the homemade vanilla extract you see up there. You only need ingredients for it, so easy! It is also a great homemade gift!
Can I prepare caramel sauce in advance?
Homemade caramel sauce can easily be made ahead of time and we love to keep a jar in the fridge. Caramel sauce is excellent served warm, at room temperature, or chilled with refrigeration. Refrigerate in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks. You can heat it up a bit to make it rainier.
PS Be careful with sampling – it's easy to get carried away!
