Fresh fruit is excellent on its own, but when you combine it with a creamy chocolate sauce, it becomes very special. If you are more of a vanilla fan, be sure to try my fruit sauce with cream cheese for a different flavor!

I often serve a fruit plate to children as a snack or for a sweet after-dinner ending. When we're in the mood for some chocolate, I make this easy chocolate fruit sauce. It is SO delicious and is great to serve as an unexpected holiday treat too.

How is the fruit sauce with chocolate prepared?

This chocolate fruit sauce starts with powdered sugar and cream cheese, which mix to become fluffy. After that, a generous amount of melted chocolate enters the mix.

I use semi sweet chocolate chips, but if you are a milk chocolate fan, feel free to use them! I melt my chocolate in the microwave in 30 second increments until it melts and is smooth, then let it cool down a bit before adding it to the cream cheese mixture.

The final step is to lighten your sauce with the addition of whipped cream or whipped topping. I like to use whipped cream, but it messes up an extra bowl when whisking the heavy cream. If you're short on time or want to save on dishes, you can easily replace the whipped topping. Be sure to gently fold the whipped cream so the sauce stays light and fluffy.

I like to serve my chocolate sauce with a variety of fresh fruit for dipping, such as berries, kiwi, pineapple, bananas, and apple slices. It's amazing that a handful of ingredients and 5 minutes can create such a fun and delicious treat. This sauce would even make great for birthday parties or other special occasions, I sometimes serve the fruit on skewers to increase the fun factor.

I like to finish my chocolate fruit sauce with some sprinkles, but you can keep it simple if you prefer. Other great topping ideas are mini chocolate or M&M chips, chopped nuts, toasted coconut, or caramel chips.

My kids are always very happy when I do this dip, and I have to agree that it really is delicious!
