A tender chocolate and banana bread with chocolate! Double chocolate with cocoa and chocolate chips.

Banana bread with chocolate

One of the most beloved recipes on the site is our banana bread, and one thing that people seem to like about changing it is adding chocolate chips. That's a no-brainer, right?

Dear banana bread lovers, putting chocolate chips on your banana bread is like having your bananas and chocolate on a date. Charming and sweet, but still separate and distinct. After a while, they both want something else: a fusion of wills, a commitment!

Well, if chocolate and banana got married, this would be the result: a chocolate-rich banana bread infused with cocoa, speckled with chocolate chips, with warm hints of butter, vanilla, and allspice.

Chocolate Banana Bread Recipe

  • Preparation time: 15 minutes.

  • Cook time: 1 hour

  • Yield: Makes 9 × 5 inch bread

Ingredients

  • 3 large ripe bananas (easily crushed)
  • 1/3 cup butter, melted
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar (packed, light or dark)
  • 1 teaspoon of salt (1/2 teaspoon if you use salted butter)
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • 1 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup natural cocoa without powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Special equipment:

  • 1 5 × 9-inch loaf pan

Method

1 Prepare the pan and preheat the oven: Butter or spray oil the inside of a 5 × 9-inch bread pan. Preheat oven to 350 ° F (175 ° C) with a rack in the middle.

2 mashed bananas: Using a blender, food processor, or fork, blend the peeled ripe bananas until smooth. You should take 1 1/2 to 1 3/4 cups of mashed banana.

3 Mix the wet ingredients and sugar: Place the banana puree in a large mixing bowl. Stir in the melted butter. Add brown sugar and salt. Whisk to break any group of brown sugar. Add the beaten egg and the vanilla extract.

4 Mix dry ingredients: In a separate bowl, vigorously mix flour, cocoa, baking soda, and allspice.

5 Add the flour mixture to the banana mixture and stir until incorporated.

Add the chocolate chips.

6 bake: Pour the dough into a buttered bread pan. Place in a 350 ° F (175 ° C) oven and bake for 1 hour.

Keep in mind that due to the chocolate chips that melt in the bread while cooking, it is difficult to check if they are ready with a tester that inserts.

One way to test is to gently press the top center of the banana and chocolate bread with your finger. If it feels relatively firm and recovers when you release your finger, it's a good sign that it's done.

7 Let cool: Remove from the oven and let cool for 10 minutes in the pan.

Gently remove the bread from the pan and place it on a wire rack to cool completely.

Slice with a serrated bread knife to serve.
