I've seen a lot of recipes for the keto Big Mac salad. Basically it's a garden salad topped with a Thousand Island-style dressing. And add some diced pickles and grated cheese.

Hidden carbohydrates in the dressing

If you take away the bun and the sesame seed dressing, the Big Mac is pretty low in carbs. I'm not sure how many carbs the dressing adds. But it's a little sweet, so I'm sure it has sugar.

I don't like sweet toppings, so I didn't add any sweeteners to the sauce drizzled on this salad. But if you want you can add a little stevia and / or monk fruit extract.

I added some optional cayenne pepper to the dressing for added flavor. Give this Big Mac salad a good kick. I also added some tomatoes for coloring.

How to make a Big Mac salad

In addition to cooking the meat mixture, the salad comes together quickly. It shouldn't take more than twenty minutes to make the dressing and put together this low carb burger salad.

To start, ground beef is sautéed with onion and garlic in a skillet over medium heat. Then the meat is seasoned with herbs and spices.

While the meat is cooking, I will beat the dressing ingredients in a bowl. That way, the flavors have the possibility to mix before sprinkling on the salad.

I also prepare the salad mixture while the meat is cooking. They are just chopped vegetables and tomato slices.

When the meat is cooked, sprinkle over the salad. Then I add the ingredients on top of the ground beef crumbs. These include pickles, freshly grated cheddar cheese, and red onions.

In the past, I made my low carb burger salad by simply placing a grilled burger on top. However, I like how the loose ground beef is spread across the entire plate.

Recipe variations

The dressing topping this Big Mac salad has a great flavor. I prefer it to the special sauce used for the original fast food hamburger. However, you can only use a regular Thousand Island dressing if you prefer.

I am not a fan of onion. Since the original recipe calls for onions, I decided to add it. I used regular red and white onion on top of the meat mixture. But feel free to drop the onions as they add some carbs.

Top the low-carb cheeseburger salad with freshly grated cheddar cheese. Big Mac uses American cheese, which is a processed cheese and I avoid using it. However, you can complete the salad with any cheese you like.

Salad:

  • 1 1/3 pounds of ground beef about 600 grams

Instructions

Bandage:

  • Dilute the tomato paste in water and add a little sweetener (if desired). Add mayonnaise and sour cream. Season with sage, oregano, basil, salt, and black pepper. Mix well and let stand.
