I need to admit something to you. We splurged at Christmas this year and bought a bag of Costco's Bang Bang Breaded Shrimp. It was delicious but definitely not low carb. I really wanted to add a healthier version to our repertoire and this keto bang bang cauliflower is a perfect choice!

You can serve this as a side dish for dinner, on top of a salad as a main dish, or as a party appetizer. It tastes amazing every time you do it.

What is cauliflower Bang Bang?

These are fried cauliflower florets with a sweet and spicy sauce. It is a very popular version of the Bang Bang Shrimp at the Bonefish Grill restaurant.

How to make cauliflower bang bang recipe

This is a simple recipe to make if you've ever fried something before. Top the cauliflower florets with a beaten egg and then a breaded almond flour.

After that, fry the breaded cauliflower.

Mix the easy five-ingredient bang bang sauce and you're done!

Ingredients on Keto Fried Cauliflower

  • cauliflower
  • egg
  • thick cream

Ingredients in the Bang Bang sauce (sweet chili sauce)

  • Mayonnaise
  • chili paste
  • Sriracha
  • erythritol (or another sweetener of your choice)

Don't I need breadcrumbs?

No. To make this fried cauliflower keto, you omit the breadcrumbs entirely. By replacing them with a mixture of almond flour and Parmesan cheese, you don't need breadcrumbs.

Can I do this vegan?

I haven't tried doing this without the cream and cheese, but if you do try, be sure to tell me how it works! Coconut cream would be a good substitute for thick cream and you will need extra almond flour.

Can I fry this cauliflower bang bang in a deep fryer?

Yes, you can definitely do it in the fryer. I've done this before and set it to 350 for 12 minutes or so until it's golden in the fryer.

How about baking it?

Baking should work, but the fried cauliflower won't be crispy.

Can I do this at Bang Bang Shrimp instead?

Absolutely! Just use raw peeled shrimp and bring them up for the cauliflower florets in this low-carb cauliflower.

Bang Bang Cauliflower

This cauliflower keto bang bang will make you forget that you are on a diet! Crispy keto cauliflower fried with a hot and sweet chili sauce is sure to please your palate!

Ingredients

  • About half of a large head of cauliflower
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon of heavy cream
  • Fresh parsley finely chopped
  • 1 cup almond flour
  • 1 cup finely grated Parmesan cheese

Ingredients of the Bang Bang sauce

  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon of chili paste
  • 1 teaspoon of sriracha
  • 1 tablespoon of erythritol
  • 1 teaspoon of lime juice

Instructions

  • In a small bowl, beat the egg with heavy cream. Set aside.

  • In a medium bowl, mix together the almond flour and cheese. Set aside.

  • Cover a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  • Dip the cauliflower in the beaten egg. I put a few pieces at a time and used a spoon to cover the cauliflower. After it is completely covered, shake it several times, to shake off any excess egg dripping back into the bowl before adding it to the breading. You don't want the egg to drip into the breading as the moisture will cause the breading to clump and it will be more difficult to stick to the cauliflower.

  • Place the piece of cauliflower in the almond flour breading bowl, use your fingers to apply a little pressure to make the breading adhere to the cauliflower.

  • Once coated, place the cauliflower on a clean baking sheet. Repeat with the remaining cauliflower.

  • To fry the cauliflower, pour the cooking oil into a saucepan. When the oil reaches 350F, gently add a few pieces of breaded cauliflower, stir the cauliflower several times to prevent it from sticking to the bottom of the pan. Cook until golden brown. Remove the cauliflower and place it on a plate lined with kitchen paper. Repeat with the remaining cauliflower.

To make the Bang Bang sauce

  • Add all of the sauce ingredients in a small bowl, whisking until smooth. Test and adjust as necessary. If you prefer less spicy, you can use less sriracha.

  • Drizzle the Keto Bang Bang sauce over the cauliflower. I have found that it is best to drizzle the sauce over the cauliflower to prevent the sauce from softening.

  • Garnish with parsley. Serve immediately.
