How to Make Cinnamon French Toast in the Oven

To do this, spread each slice of bread generously with butter and sprinkle with a little cinnamon sugar. Baked French Raisin Cinnamon Toast Recipe

This takes our beloved French Toast a couple of notches. Instead of standing up, patiently waiting for the cream-soaked slices of bread to cook in a pan, they are placed on a baking sheet, dipped in vanilla cream, and baked until puffed and browned. For this we use cinnamon raisin bread, but the basic sandwich bread will work well.

Makes about 8 servings.

Will need

1/2 cup (100 grams) of granulated sugar

1 tablespoon ground cinnamon

16 slices cinnamon raisin bread and raisin sandwich

8 tablespoons (115 grams or 1 stick) unsalted butter, softened

3 cups (710 ml) of whole milk

6 large eggs

1/4 teaspoon of sea salt

2 teaspoons of vanilla extract


  • Toasted bread
  • Heat oven to 450 degrees F. Line two baking sheets with aluminum foil.

    In a small bowl, mix together the sugar and cinnamon. Place the bread in a layer on the baking sheets. Spread each slice with a little butter and sprinkle with a teaspoon of cinnamon sugar; you may have a little cinnamon sugar left over.

    Slide the baking sheets into the oven and toast the bread until golden brown and until the top of the cinnamon and sugar has a slight crunch, 5 to 10 minutes.

    Lower the oven to 375 degrees F and allow the toast to cool slightly.

    • Butter a 9-inch by 13-inch baking dish. Cut two slices of toast in half horizontally. It will have two upper halves (with a curved crust) and two lower halves.

      Arrange the toast in two rows on the baking sheet. Start with one of the lower halves of sliced ​​toast, place 7 more slices in a row, and end with one of the upper halves of sliced ​​toast. Repeat with the second row. (Cutting the bread in half and arranging them at the ends of the rows ensures that each serving is the same thickness.)

      In a medium bowl, whisk together milk, eggs, salt, and vanilla until combined, then pout over toast in baking dish. Use a spatula or your hands to gently press the toast onto the pastry cream and then let it sit for 15 minutes and overnight to soak up the cream on the toast.
