I love the way salty bacon tastes like sweet foods like this Maple Bacon Monkey Bread.
The salty / sweet flavor combination is hard to beat. There is nothing like a good contrast to awaken your taste buds.
This bacon-stuffed French toast recipe works best with stale bread, making it perfect for using the second half of that loaf of bread you bought last week. If your bread is still fresh enough, remove it from the bag and place it on the counter for about an hour to dry.
Just use a thin layer of the cream cheese mixture on each piece of bread. Just enough to help seal the two pieces of bread. Use too much and it will have a soggy taste.

The bacon is stuffed between 2 pieces of bread with a cream cheese / brown sugar mixture. The best sweet and savory breakfast!
4 ounces cream cheese, softened
1/3 cup packed brown sugar
8 slices of white bread, preferably stale
8 slices of bacon, cooked
1/2 cup milk
1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
4 teaspoons of butter
- vegetable oil
In a medium bowl, mix cream cheese and brown sugar. Spread one side of each slice of bread with cream cheese.
Sandwich 2 slices of bacon between 2 pieces of bread with the cream cheese side facing in. Repeat for the remaining bread slices to make a total of four.
In a shallow bowl, mix the eggs, milk, and vanilla extract.
Dip each “toast” of French toast into the egg mixture. Try to get just the egg mixture on the outside of each piece of bread and don't let it penetrate into the middle where the bacon is or it will get soggy, plus any eggs that get into the medium will not really cook.
Heat a large nonstick skillet or griddle over medium heat. Add butter and a little vegetable oil. Cook each stuffed French toast until golden brown on the bottom, then flip. Add more butter and oil to the pan if necessary. Cook until the second side is golden.
Cut each piece in half and serve with maple syrup.
