This delicious salad is also on every mom’s list of the family’s favorite summer barbecue sites. Enjoy!

Dave adores macaroni salad. Like the ones my grandmother used to make.

All my years as a kid, every summer at our family potlucks, Grandma Cash would bring Macaroni salad. Always teeny, little elbow macaroni noodles drowned in her delicious mayonnaise dressing with a little onion and celery for crunch and flavor. All American macaroni salad

green onions, black olives and garden-made roasted red peppers work well in this recipe.

Once introduced to Grandma's classic macaroni salad, Dave told me to get the recipe. I remember asking how she was doing. She gave me a rather confused look. "You don't know how to make macaroni salad?"

I knew right then that I was flunking basic womanhood, in her opinion. Or my home economics teacher failed (we used to have them). Or maybe my mother.

Somehow, I had fallen through the cracks of basic American female education.

I looked back helplessly and did not respond. She stepped up from the recipe in a rather vague way and went out to talk to someone. Of course, my pen and paper were not practical.

So it went. The mysterious, perfect recipe for her macaroni salad escaped me.

Have green onions

Garden green onions, chopped all the way up the stem, are wonderful additions to this salad.

Our family loves noodles in almost every form. Our Pasta Bacon Salad, Mediterranean Macaroni Salad, Tortellini Salad With Pepperoni and Chicken Bacon Ranch Pasta Salad are all good.

All amazing! But never quite the same as Grandma's old American favorite. But I'm not a grandmother.

I want color and powerful flavor and balsamic compounds. And I make this recipe with all that. Think of this as fusion cooking. Me and grandma melted in this salad bowl.

I also adapted this Macaroni Salad to Dave & # 39; s Taste. He loves it. But he would have twice as much attire.

black olives and garden-produced roasted red peppers. Directions for roasting pepper are in this post.

I used Bragg's apple cider vinegar to give the dressing some seaweed. And doubled the amount of dressing for my sleeping-loving husband. Salt and pepper are a MUST on this salad to get the flavor out.

I used our homemade roasted red peppers from the freezer. You can use any jarred roasted paprika in your local grocery stores.

All American macaroni salad is a favorite potluck preparation.

Macaroni salad recipe:

NOTE: There are no hard and fast rules for this Mac salad. The whole thing is to taste. Enjoy running after your family members with a spoon while making the bandage until you are happy with it. The proportions here are what I did, adjust as you think.

Macaroni salad ingredients are just what you like. We enjoy roasted peppers, black olives and green pepper. They add lively flavor and color.

The dressing is my grandmother's classic macaroni salad dressing. Mayo, vinegar and sugar. Simple and full of sweet pie flavor.

Replacements and additions:

  • You can use honey (or even maple syrup) instead of sugar to sweeten if you wish. But it will affect the taste.
  • Quinoa noodles also work for this salad if you want a gluten-free option and don't mind a slightly different noodle texture.
  • Replace finely chopped celery, craze pickles or red onion to the green onions if you prefer.
  • Thinly sliced boiled eggs are a fun way to garnish the top of the salad with a dash of paprika to add color.
  • 1 tsp. Dijon mustard, 1/4 cup of crème fraiche and a dash of garlic powder can be added to the dressing if you really want to turn on that sauce.

binding:

  1. Whisk vinegar, sugar and mayonnaise together until smooth (here is my recipe for Homemade Heart Healthy Mayo.) Add milk and whisk until pourable.
  2. Mix vegetables and sweet taste in the noodles.
  3. Add the dressing to the nude mixture and gently stir until each noodle is covered with dressing. Your salad should be sour.
  4. Relax in the fridge for several hours.
  5. Remove it from the fridge, update if necessary the salad dressing (you may even need more if it's all soaked in the noodles) and mix more in the salad.
  6. Serve chilled

    TIPS:

  7. This is a good salad to make the night before and refrigerate so the flavors blend well. The dressing is sucked into the paste some, so keep that in mind.
  8. Boil the macaroni elbow in a large pot of salted water for Al Dente. About 10 minutes. DO NOT overcook.
  9. Empty and rinse. Now pour into a large bowl. (if using the small salad noodles, use less cooking time, about half)
  10. Chop the drained black olives, roasted peppers and green onions finely while the noodles are cooked.
  11. I did NOT assume you would have a double portion of dressing. But if you, like Dave, want a macaroni salad, slurp a spoon instead of balancing on a fork; double connection. 🙂
  12. Extra dressing is also great for this salad dressing. The noodles absorb some of the sauce the other day.
