You can make seafood pasta with red sauce, but what makes this dish stand out is the rich and creamy Alfredo sauce. It is a white sauce made with a combination of butter, cream, garlic, Parmesan and just a pinch of nutmeg. Sounds pretty good right? The best part is that it only takes about 15 minutes to do. That's faster than you could heat a jar of store-bought stuff and doing it from scratch is so much better!

How is homemade Alfredo sauce made?

  • Add 4 tablespoons of butter to a skillet over medium-high heat.
  • Pour in thick cream and simmer, stirring all the time.
  • Add the Parmesan and nutmeg and continue cooking for 8-10 minutes, stirring constantly. Add salt and pepper to taste.

Once your sauce is done, add your pasta and some beautifully cooked, beautiful big shrimp and mix everything. That cheesy, buttery, creamy Alfredo sauce covers everything in the most amazing way and dinner is served.

How to make Alfredo shrimp paste?

  1. Melt 2 tablespoons of butter in a frying pan. Add garlic to skillet and cook for 1 minute, then add shrimp to skillet and cook for about 2 minutes on each side, or until shrimp are fully pink. When the shrimp are ready, set them aside.
  2. Add the remaining 4 tablespoons of butter to the pan along with the heavy cream. Bring to a simmer. Add the Parmesan and nutmeg and continue cooking for 8-10 minutes, stirring constantly. Salt and pepper to taste.
  3. While the sauce is simmering, cook the pasta according to the package directions. When the pasta is done, put 1 cup of pasta water aside before draining the pasta.
  4. Add cooked pasta and shrimp to sauce and stir until pasta is well coated. If you need to thin the sauce, add a small amount of pasta water until you reach the desired texture.

Useful tips for making Alfredo shrimp pasta:

  • Use a flat pasta like fettuccine or linguine for a rich, creamy sauce like Alfredo. The thin, flat noodle can handle the weight of the sauce, and gives you more surface to hold on to that delicious Alfredo sauce!
  • Don't overcook shrimp! This is a quick and easy recipe, and that's partly because shrimp only take a few minutes to fully cook. Add a little butter to your skillet, add the shrimp and cook for about 2 minutes on each side or until completely pink. Then they are ready to eat!
  • Don't skip the thick cream. I know it can be tempting to substitute something lighter, but thick cream is part of what gives this sauce its rich flavor and velvety texture.
