I hope you are having a wonderful January so far, it is crazy to think that the month is already half over. It has been very cold here at YEG, so we have spent a lot of time indoors and the renovation of our house is progressing slowly but surely. We are now in the drywall stage which is really cool because drywall is definitely starting to give the house a more finished look. Let's cross our fingers and we'll be moving in late February.
In the meantime, I've kept myself busy making delicious herbal recipes from The Vegan Bundle that I shared a couple of weeks ago. I've talked to many of my friends and readers who don't necessarily want to switch to a vegan diet, but are intrigued by adding more plant-based foods to their routine. I totally understand it! I'm not vegan, and I love a good burger (hello Alberta beef!), But I also love adding snacks and plant-based meals to my day. I've roamed the blogosphere and created a delicious list of 18 plant-based snacks that are sweet or savory!
What is a plant-based diet?
The first time I heard, I thought it was just another way of saying it, but it's actually quite different. A vegan diet is one that is completely devoid of animal-based foods, and often those who follow a vegan diet will also follow a vegan lifestyle, which means they generally don't use animal products like leather or wool. While a vegan diet does not contain animal products, it does not necessarily mean that it does not contain sugar, refined flours, or processed foods, as we all know that there is no shortage of vegan donuts, cookies, Mac & Cheez, and croissants on the market. However, a "plant-based" diet revolves primarily around healthy, unprocessed or minimally processed foods of plant origin with some animal products such as free-range chicken eggs, organic poultry, or wild fish. A plant-based diet focuses on whole foods and raw options, with the idea of eating plant foods … and theirs! I love this concept of eating and I really feel that a plant-based diet is a great way to eat for incredible energy, stellar digestion, and excellent overall health.

When it comes to plant-based sweet snacks, these generally focus on fruits, nuts, seeds, unrefined grains like oats, and unrefined natural sugars, including pure maple syrup and coconut palm sugar. Some plant-based snacks may include honey (remember, it's not the same as vegan), but the general concept is that these sweet snacks are primarily made from whole, unrefined plant foods.
